National Guidelines for WASH Services in Health Care Facilities in Tanzania

At the end of 2017, the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), Tanzania mainland, launched the National Guidelines for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Healthcare Facilities (HCFs).

These guidelines have put in place a uniform and harmonised approach for the provision of WASH services in public and private HCFs across the country. Specifically, they offer practical guidance for planning and budgeting, as well as technical designing and construction of recommended WASH facilities, operation and maintenance (O&M), and monitoring the performance of the services. WASH in HCFs is fundamental to creating a clean and safe environment and thus improving the quality of care.
