WaterAid's COP29 delegation

A delegation from WaterAid will attend COP29 to call for greater investment in climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and to amplify the voices of those most vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis.  

Our delegation will be leading, speaking at, and attending events across the two weeks of the UN climate change summit.

Mirindra Andrianantenaina

Mirindra Andrianantenaina

Climate Finance & Policy Expert, WaterAid Madagascar

With multi-disciplinary education and experience, Mirindra will advocate for the integration of WASH into climate change policy at COP29. She will develop broader networks and partnerships with potential actors involved in WASH and climate change, and foster their interaction for climate-resilient WASH and climate finance for implementing WASH adaptation actions.

At COP29, Moreblessings will represent and profile WaterAid's Pan-Africa Programme, bringing experiences and lived realities from WaterAid's national teams in Africa, and the communities they work with, to discussions at the summit. 

Dr Shakeel Hayat

Dr Shakeel Hayat

Climate Change and WASH Specialist, WaterAid Pakistan

With more than 15 years experience, Dr Hayat has collaborated with numerous national and international organisations on driving positive change in sustainability and environmental conservation initiatives. He currently teaches climate change and water governance at the Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar and advises WaterAid and GIZ on the diverse challenges of climate change and WASH.

CEO, Resilient Water Accelerator

Kate leads the Resilient Water Accelerator – an initiative, incubated within WaterAid, to mobilise public and private finance to improve water security for those on the frontline of climate change. Previously, Kate worked for the UK Government for 20 years on climate change, climate finance and sustainability, and led teams working on clean energy transitions, green finance and sustainable supply chains.

Alex James

Partnership Development Manager, WaterAid UK 

Alex leads WaterAid UK’s engagement with the financial and pharmaceutical sectors – with a particular focus on ESG, sustainable finance and supply chain resilience – and helps develop approaches to scaling up private finance for WASH. Prior to WaterAid, Alex spent five years at a leading sustainability consultancy which supported development programmes on WASH, health, climate and agriculture. 

Oumer Abdulahi Kassim

Dr Oumer Abdulahi Kassim

Advocacy Officer – Climate Change, WaterAid Japan

Oumer's work focuses on establishing partnerships and alliances with stakeholders, and building and maintaining relationships with the Japanese government. At COP29, he will be involved in discussions around the Tokyo International Conference on African Development and will collaborate with WaterAid Madagascar to promote groundwater development for climate change adaptation.

Manka Kway

Manka Kway

Advocacy Manager, Pan-Africa Programme
 
Manka focuses on policy and research related to WASH, climate and health. At COP29, she will present findings from NDC assessments focused on East African countries, highlighting progress on WASH targets. Manka seeks to motivate governments to foster an environment that promotes meaningful participation from non-governmental stakeholders in developing and updating NDC processes.

Communications and Advocacy Coordinator, WaterAid Pakistan

Ghina works to advance global WASH initiatives, especially for climate-vulnerable communities. She has a strong record in advocacy, having led initiatives at Pakistan’s President House. A media analyst for BBC Urdu and a former radio broadcaster, Ghina brings an insightful voice to social and political issues and serves on the US Embassy’s Ambassador Youth Council in Islamabad.

Lesley Pories

Lesley Pories

Lead Policy Analyst, WASH Financing – WaterAid UK

Lesley leads on achieving WaterAid’s organisational commitment to grow the quantity and quality of finance – public and private – for access to WASH services. At COP29, she will be following negotiations on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) as well as the role of climate finance within international economic architecture.

Adnan Ibne Abdul Qader

Adnan Ibne Abdul Qader

Climate & Water Governance Specialist, WaterAid Bangladesh

Adnan is a researcher, activist and governance specialist who leads climate policy support work for Bangladesh and provides regional oversight for South Asia. His work focuses on building bridges between water and climate change policy landscapes. At COP29, he will be involved in discussions around locally led adaptation, loss and damage, and the GGA. 

Hantaniaina Rabesandratana

Hantaniaina Rabesandratana

Head of Programme – Governance & Policy, WaterAid Madagascar

Hantaniaina provides leadership on WASH programming, supporting the sector to deliver climate-resilient, gender-sensitive and inclusive WASH services and strengthening WASH governance. At COP29, she will provide insights on how and why the complexity of WASH governance can be embraced when designing and implementing national and subnational climate policies and plans. 

Helen Rumford

Helen Rumford

Lead Policy Analyst  – Climate, WaterAid UK

Helen leads WaterAid's global policy on climate change and will be leading WaterAid's overarching engagement with and reactions to COP29 and wider processes. In Baku, she'll be following action on climate finance and adaptation, as well as discussions on water and food systems. She's interested in how WASH and water can align with action on land, nature and food to deliver climate justice.

Partha Hefaz Shaikh

Partha Hefaz Shaikh

Director – Programmes & Policy Advocacy, WaterAid Bangladesh

Partha's interest in climate change grew from his work in flood-prone, coastal areas of Bangladesh. His work focuses on climate-vulnerable communities; providing support for resilient WASH services in communities and institutions, especially community health clinics. He also supports government institutions to use a resilient WASH lens while developing and implementing policies.
